According to the scientific journal Neuropsychopharmacology, published by the American College of Neuropsychopharmacology since 1987, the CBD helps fight addiction to alcohol and cocaine.
Curiously enough, cannabidiol, confused by many people with a psychotropic drug, can help people to reduce their alcohol and cocaine use according to an experiment made with rats. The experiment consisted of administering dermal CBD every 24 hours for seven days to rats that consumed alcohol and cocaine.
The result showed that the rats stopped consuming to a great extent, even when they were exposed to anxiety situations to push them towards consumption. In addition, despite their history of alcohol and cocaine dependence, they became less anxious and impulsive.
CBD for relapses in alcohol for months
The leader of the research Friedbert Weiss says that the results show that CBD helps prevent relapse and, even with a week’s treatment, beneficial results were seen in rats for up to five months.
Relapses in addicted people are extremely common and occur for different reasons such as lack of support, loneliness, depression, abstinence and stress. In this study, Cannabidiol showed to be an excellent choice because despite being administered just for seven days, it helped the rats to avoid consuming alcohol and cocaine for months, even when the CBD was no longer detected in the plasma and brain of the animals.
